NVQ Successes at Taylor Shaw
During the last year we have been working in Partnership with Qube Leaning under the government’s Train to Gain initiative to provide NVQ training for our catering staff.
The qualifications on offer are NVQ Level 2 in either Food Preparation or Customer Service. All the training and assessment is carried out on site as a portfolio of evidence is built up against the different units which make up the qualification.
Some of the staff have also had the opportunity to gain their Food Safety level 2 qualifications or the Certificate in Healthy Eating which is extremely useful for those working within a school environment.
This opportunity has proved to be very popular and rewarding for our staff who have found it reasonably straightforward to use their experience gained within the unit to achieve a recognised qualification. It has also given them the opportunity to refresh their knowledge of food safety and health and safety procedures as well as learning about the importance of customer care.
Our first successes have recently been presented with their certificates and we are pleased to see more staff coming forward to sign up for the qualification. To date 34 staff have achieved the NVQ with another 50 working towards it.
